Our Story
A family business built from the inside out
Smart Trips is a family-founded business. The Spencer Family didn't enter the travel technology space as outsiders — we were already deep in it as the owners of Lifestyle Travel, a travel agency in Ballarat, Australia.
After years of watching our team spend hours printing documents, assembling bulky travel wallets and manually retyping booking information, we knew there had to be a better way. In 2012, we began researching what that might look like. In 2013, we started building it.
Smart Trips was created by Travel Agents, for Travel Agents. Every decision — every feature — was guided by what we knew our own clients needed and what we wished we had as agents ourselves. When we first launched to our own clients at Lifestyle Travel Ballarat in 2016, the feedback confirmed we were onto something real.
Today, Smart Trips is trusted by Travel Businesses who want to deliver a professional, paperless and modern experience to every client they serve. We're proud of what we've built — and we're just getting started.

The Idea Takes Shape
Research began on what would become Smart Trips — born from firsthand frustration with the industry's reliance on paper, printing and manual processes.
- 2013
Smart Trips Founded
Smart Trips was officially founded and production on the platform began. The vision: a fully digital travel experience delivered by Travel Agents.
- 2016
First Live Clients
The Smart Trips App was first launched to clients of Lifestyle Travel Ballarat — a real-world test with real travellers from day one.
- 2018
Public Launch & Industry Recognition
The Smart Trips App launched publicly on iOS and Android. Smart Trips received a Judges Commendation at the National Travel Industry Awards for Best Travel Agent Technology Innovation.
- 2020
Smart Quotes Released
The Smart Quotes module launched, allowing Travel Agents to create attractive, branded proposals and convert them directly to trips with a single click.
- 2024
National Travel Industry Awards Finalist
Smart Trips was named a Finalist at the 2024 National Travel Industry Awards in the Innovation in Travel Support Services category.
- 2025
First AI Feature Released
Smart Trips added its first artificial intelligence feature — the AI Document Reader — allowing agents to import booking documents instantly.
